The blue tartan clad lads (THANKS LYNNE!) from Troop 345 made their triumphant return to San Antonio Sunday morning. The Freeze-O-Ree lived up to its name this year with temperatures dipping below freezing on both nights. Not to mention our trip home Sunday morning amid heavy sleet and snow flurries! With all the rain of late we were actually able to enjoy a campfire at our campsite on Saturday night. Haven’t done that in a while!
Our scouts performed well in the competitions with several bringing home ribbons. Mingo started us off by placing 2nd in the 2-mile run and also capturing a 3rd place in the Boot Toss later in the day. Sean and Glynn showed everyone that technique (and maybe a bit of luck as well) can prevail over size and muscle. Sean took 1st place in the Hatchet Throw and Glynn tied for 2nd place.
There was no luck involved – only determination shown by Sean in completing the Golf Challenge earning him the Judges Choice Award for his perseverance. A true display of the Cheerful and Brave points of the Scout Law in action!
Technique served us well for a while, but unfortunately the Tug-of-War is a competition where size and weight do matterJ The Falcons (Glynn, Sean, Wesley, & P.J.), averaging some 70-80 lbs., gave a valiant effort, but were eliminated early in the competition. The Shadow Wolves (Mitchell, David, Chris, & Mingo) held their own for a while, but were eliminated just prior to advancing into the final bracket.
A fun time was had by all and we are looking forward to next year’s event.
